Coker Named Gainesville Jaycees Player of the Week

FLOWERY BRANCH -- Kanler Coker couldn't have asked for a much better start to his senior season.

Playing in his first game for Flowery Branch, the senior quarterback lit up Madison County, passing for 204 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 56 more with one score in a 56-7 win over the Red Raiders.

Thanks to his performance, Coker earned the first ever Gainesville Jaycees Player of the Week (presented by Jacobs Media) honors.

Coker, who had just recovered from a bout with mononucleosis, did not have even have the benefit of a warm up, having missed the Falcons preseason scrimmage due to the illness. This is also Coker's first season at Flowery Branch, having transferred from North Hall, and the senior is only a few months into learning the Falcons' spread offense.

The Jaycees will honor one player each week this season, and Access North sports editor Morgan Lee will present the award. This week, Morgan talked with Coker about his first game with the Falcons and their success.
