Jaycees raise funds for American Cancer Society

BRASELTON - A brief rain storm did its best to stop the efforts of the American Cancer Society on Friday June 4th. Thankfully, blue skies prevailed, fundraising ensued and cancer survivors were celebrated.

This year marked the second year that the American Cancer Society held its Hall County Relay for Life event at Road Atlanta. More than 4,000 people attended the event, including the Gainesville Jaycees. The Jaycees formed a team to participate in the event's activities in Braselton, in addition to the club raising more than $2,100 to support the mission of the American Cancer Society.

The event has a fundraising goal of $578,000; event chairman Rose Riddle estimated that more than 60% of this goal was reached before the event even started.

One local physician, Dr. Ricky LoCicero, noted that events like these continue to fund cancer research. "We cure cancer every day," Dr. LoCicero said."We're not through, we've got other cancers we've got to cure." (quote provided by Jerry Gunn of Access North GA from this article).
